Fulani herder grazing on my farm mysteriously brought out cutlass to attack me – Akwa based investigative journalist
An Akwa Ibom based investigative journalist turned commercial farmer, Ibanga Isine, recounting his encounters with a Fulani herder, whose cattle were eating up and destroying his farm crops, revealed that the herder brought out a cutlass from nowhere to cut him
He said it was a frightening encounter with a Fulani during one of several invasions of his farm in Uyo.

In his interview published by Punch Newspaper on Sunday, July 26, 2026, the journalist said he met cattle on this fateful day grazing on his farm.
According to him, he questioned the Fulani man for bringing cows to his farm, while brought out a cutlass with no intention, but to drive away cattle.
Isine said the young Fulani ignored him, only to be surprised that the herder brought out his own cutlass which he honestly didn’t know where he kept it.
“I confronted the herder and asked why he had brought cattle onto someone else’s farm, but he ignored me completely. I picked up a cutlass, not to attack him, but simply to chase the cattle away before they destroyed everything.
“What happened next was something I never imagined. The young herder suddenly produced his own cutlass. I honestly don’t know where he had kept it.”
The journalist said he began raising concerns about his personal safety rather than protecting his farm crops being eaten by cows, adding that repeated invasions by suspected herders continue to threaten farming activities and discourage agricultural investment.
He called on the authorities to strengthen the enforcement of laws against illegal grazing, stressing that farmers should not have to risk their lives while protecting their crops and livelihoods.
