BREAKING: Police carved in to pressure, releases Sowore from detention with bandage on broken hand

After three days of arrest and detention on the order of the Inspector Genereal of Police, IGP, activist Omoleye Sowore has been released on Friday by the Nigeria Police Force.
Sowore was seen with bandaged right which he claimed was smashed by officers who manhandled him while in detention, a development that has been condemned all over the world, particularly by activists and well meaning Nigerians who wondered where the Police derived its authority to assault and batter a citizen who is presumed innocent until it is proven otherwise.

His release has been confirmed on his verified social media handles on Friday.
He wrote: “Nigeria Police Force has capitulated to the demands of the revolutionary movt, I have been released from unjust, illegal & unwarranted detention. However, it is nothing to celebrate, but thank u for not giving up!#RevolutionNow.”

Addressing supporters of Sowore while in detention on Friday, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Special Intervention Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle, explained that the activist was detained based on two petitions.
He addressed a press conference, claiming that the two petitions were shown to Sowore for him to be abreast of reasons he was detained, a claim Sowore denied..
“The two petitions against Omoyele Sowore were shown to him right in my presence,” the CP said in a video streamed by Sowore’s SaharaReporters.
“One bordered on forgery of a police document, which he published online, and we all know the position of the law. It is your duty to provide a source of how you came about the forged document. The second petition has to do with cyberbullying.”
Shogunle also maintained that Sowore declined to make statement when he was confronted to do so.
