Army’s transformation agenda can be made possible through troops’ welfare – COAS

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has stated that the yearn for the transformation of Nigerian Army could only be driven by welfare of the troops.
He reaffirmed that troops’ welfare and family well-being remains sacrosanct to the transformation agenda, adding that a motivated force is essential for operational effectiveness.

The COAS was quoted as saying in a statement on Thursday by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, during the commissioning of the newly constructed Nigerian Army Space Command Headquarters at Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, Abuja.
Waidi noted that investments in accommodation, healthcare and modern infrastructure reflect the Army’s commitment to improving personnel morale and providing a conducive environment for troops and their families, in line with his Soldier First mantra and the Sound Administration pillar of his Command Philosophy.

The COAS also highlighted the strategic importance of the Space Command in advancing the Army’s technological capabilities. He explained that integrating space-based assets with drones and other emerging technologies would serve as a force multiplier by enhancing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, improving situational awareness and supporting timely operational decisions while reducing troops’ exposure to danger.
He urged personnel to ensure proper maintenance of the commissioned facility, emphasising that technological advancement must be matched with effective training, discipline and accountability.
General Shaibu reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to building a professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force through sustained investment in personnel welfare, infrastructure and modern military capabilities.
