U.S Lawmaker, Riley Moore

Riley Moore, a member of the United States Congress, has advised the Nigerian Government to decentralize policing system to tackle the worsening insecurity, stating that State governments must be empowered to tackle insecurity within their own states.

The US lawmaker reacted to the worsening insecurity in the middle belt and the entire northern States, on his X on Wednesday, calling on the Federal Government to take decisive steps to protect citizens, especially in the Middle belt region.

He expressed concern on the continued violence affecting communities in Nigeria and urged the government to carry out a structural reform in the country’s policing system.

Moore argued that States will have capacity for quick response to security threats, if they control their own police, while he condemned the targeted attack on Christians by Islamic terrorists.

“Christians in Nigeria continue to face brutal violence and death at the hands of radical Islamic terrorists. The government in Abuja must step up and protect their citizens in the Middle Belt.

“It’s past time to decentralize police authority so state governments can protect their citizens and stop this horrific persecution,” Moore wrote.

He also referenced the destruction of a Christian church in Taraba State.

“Another Christian church in Nigeria destroyed by Fulani militants. These are photos of St James the Great Catholic Church in Adu, Taraba. Just constant terrorism against these Christians,” he added.

Nigeria has lately been in the international spotlight over security concerns, particularly the killing of Christians by the Islamic terrorists.

Meanwhile, Tinubu’s administration has indicated interest in establishing the State Police as means of tackling insecurity in the country.
