Kogi: Payment of compensation commences for demolition of shops in Idojie in Okene for airport construction
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has commence payment of compensation to victims of structures at Idojie, popularly known as the Sambell area, in the Okene Local Government Area.
The victims’ structures were demolished in January to pave way for the construction of the State airport.

The demolition was also aimed at the establishment of Ajaokuta Free Trade Zone projects.
The demolition which was carried out on 15th January, 2026 has impacted on some lands that genuinely belong to some landlords, hence, the state government’s resolve to pay compensation.
Represented by the Director-General of the Kogi State Bureau of Lands, Kehinde Augustine Salihu-Otaru, at a ceremony in Lokoja, the governor urged the affected shop owners to use cheques to rebuild their businesses and livelihoods.
Salihu-Otaru explained that ausman Ododo’s administration after reviewing the administration identified 23 shop owners and decided to compensate them.
“The Bureau of Lands had verified 23 shop occupants as eligible beneficiaries”, adding that the compensation was shared on a 70:30 ratio to cover both the demolished structures and goods lost during the exercise.
