Bauchi governor, Bala Mohammed to defect to APC Tuesday

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has perfected plans which he said is 60/40 completion for his defection from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC ahead of 2027 general election.
His planned defection followed several meetings with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other top APC members ahead of the already scheduled defection as part of a new political alignment.

One of Bala’s aides disclosed that his principal met Tinubu to negotiate power sharing including allowing him to contest for Senate, now that he is rounding up his second tenure of office, which he said, he has been given opportunity for 60/40 power-sharing formula within the party structure in the state.
The source said, Bala’s request to nominate his successor in 2027 general election was not yet concluded, even though, President Tinubu preferred that the control of the party should lie squarely on party leadership, rather than an individual.

The hesitation over handing the structure to Mohammed is said to stem from the political sensitivity of Bauchi State, which has several influential political actors with governorship ambitions.
Among those reportedly interested in the position are Minister of Health Ali Pate, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, and oil and gas executive Bala Wunti.
Despite the unresolved issue, Mohammed is said to have concluded arrangements to formally join the APC at a ceremony expected to be attended by key party leaders.
