2027: As ‘Tinubu must go’ campaign thickens, President prays in Saudi Arabia

The ‘Tinubu Must Go’, TMG, an anti-Tinubu campaign organisation is spreading fast across the 19 northern States including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT and it’s daily growing as a group that is hellbent on stopping President’s re-election for a second term of office.
In what started as an insignificant group, its membership is swelling by the day, while the founders no longer held meeting behind close doors, but announces their meeting on social media and openly sought Police permission for their security.

The TMG believed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu didn’t do well and as such, his administration was rocked with hardship, high cost of living, high cost of transportation, lack of affordable medical care, social insecurity and his inability to tackle security challenges in the last three years.
The group envisaged that Tinubu’s second term of office would deepen woes, hence, the 2027 general election was an opportunity for citizens to replace him with another person. They argued that the removal of subsidy has done harm than good, insisted that the growth in revenue and increase in allocation to States and Local Governments across the country was only beneficial to few governors.

The hike in transportation driven by the removal of fuel subsidy and global oil flow disruption remains a vexed issue, hence TMG in the northern corridor believed that citizens were not getting relief by any means.
In Kano, the co-founder of ‘Tinubu Must Go’, Barrister Abba Hikima has lamented the worsening condition of Nigerians under the Tinubu-led administration. He said the inability of the administration to curtail insecurity was the reason the group was committed to change government among other reasons.
CAPITAL POST had a fortnight ago, reported the TMG’s planned meeting in Kano was disrupted by the Police, on the pretext that security of participants could not be guaranteed.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, ordered for cancellation of the planned meeting of TMG, citing that the expected number of TMG members billed for the meeting was too much for the Police to guarantee their safety.
The convener of the meeting, Abba Hikima reacting to the order accused the Police of bias and pushed the matter into the public space through the media. The order attracted public reactions with condemnation, scathing criticism, described the police actions as unacceptable. Some public analysts argued that the TMG members have right to association, therefore, such last minute cancellation was unacceptable and in conflict with democratic norms.
Though, the Commissioner of Police, admitted to citizens having the constitutional right to associate and not need permission to associate, he argued that information provided for the police of their intention to meet was to ensure their safety.
Another co-founder, and a legal practitioner, Hamza Nuhu Dantani, speaking to the press, reasoned that difficulties were the rationale behind the movement. He said they would mobilise Nigerians like never before to reject President Tinubu in next year’s general election.
He ruled out personal hatred and tribal irredentism as being behind the push to unseat Tinubu, insisted that government’s policies on ordinary Nigerians were rough and shouldn’t continue.
“We do not hate President Tinubu as a person. Our concern is with his administration, its policies, and their impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians,” he said.
He stated that Tinubu Must Go movement must remain focused, peaceful, and committed to its mission of demanding better leadership and a better future for Nigeria, urging everyone to see their activities as legitimate in pursuit for the welfare of the citizens.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu seems to be undeterred amid growing discontent for his administration as he jetted out of the country to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for prayer rites.
Though, his trip on Thursday 29, 2026 was suspected by his political opponents as a decoy to proceed for medical attention, the official statement by the presidency, noted that he travelled to the Holy City of Mecca in Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj pilgrimage.
The statement pointed out that the President would take out time to embark on “spiritual reflection, devotion, prayer for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and continued progress”.
The statement issued by the Spokesman to the President, Bayo Onanuga, stressed that Tinubu’s trip was not the regular annual Hajj, but the lesser Hajj which he last embarked in 2022.
CAPITAL POST observed that President Tinubu was seen among other pilgrims dressed in white which regular for individuals performing the Islamic rites in the Holy land.
