BREAKING: Impeachment moves against Governor Fubara begins amid fresh crisis with Wike

Rivers State House of Assembly has again commenced impeachment against the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara with no fewer than 26 lawmakers said to have signed a notice as at Thursday morning.
The fresh impeachment notice comes amid political crisis between the governor and Chief Nyesom Wike.

The notice seeks to remove Fubara and the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Oduh from office, even as majority of legislators are loyalists of Wike.
At Thursday’s plenary presided by the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, the majority leader of the House, Major Jack publicly read a notice of allegations and claims of gross misconduct which are impeachable offence against Fubara.

The lawmakers contended that their action is in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended.
Amaewhule announced that the notice would be served on Governor Fubara within the next seven days, in accordance with legislative procedure.
Similarly, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Linda Stewart, read out a separate notice of allegations and gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Ngozi Oduh.
The latest development comes amid the lingering political rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor and political benefactor, Nyesom Wike, which has continued to polarise the state’s political structure.
After Fubara’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the party leadership said Wike would “certainly be under” his successor, Fubara.
