2027: FG denies plot to postpone election, says it’s fake news

The Federal Government has denied plot to postpone the 2027 general, said, it’s fake news being peddled by the opposition.
The FG said the general election scheduled for January 16, 2026 will go ahead as planned by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, reacting to allegations by the opposition African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council, alleging that plans are afoot to postone the January 16, 2027 presidential election, said that was a fake news.
Idris insisted that there was no plan and not aware of such move.
CAPITAL POST recalled that the ADC-PCC raised the alarm, alleging FG’s plan to shift the general election.

The African Democratic Congress, presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had through his Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, told Tinubu to discard plans to shift elections beginning from January last year.
The ADC called on INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan to reject any instruction to change the date and immediately make any such approach public.
“The election date belongs to Nigerians. It must not be rewritten behind closed doors at the Villa,” the council said.
