BREAKING: Court annuls Senator Emmanuel Bwacha’s primary election in Taraba

The All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for 2023 governorship election which was won by Senator Emmanuel Bwacha has been annulled by the Court on Tuesday.
The annulment was pronounced by the
the Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo, capital of Taraba State.

Senator Bwacha representing Taraba South Senatorial district was a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), before he defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He contested the APC Taraba State governorship election against Sabo Kente, a former Civil servant and a businessman which Bwacha won, but was dragged to Court over irregularities.

Meanwhile, Justice Simon Qmobeda Amobeda, ordered that a fresh primary poll be conducted within 14 days of the judgment, adding that the APC should furnish the Court on the mode of primary within seven days.
It is recalled that Mr David Sabo Kente, one of the aspirants in the Taraba APC guber primary, on May 26 sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Senator Emmanuel Bwacha and APC as the first, second and third defendants respectively, challenging the legitimacy of the conduct of the primary.
CAPITAL POST observed that the presiding judge relied heavily on the report by the Chairman of the Taraba APC Governorship Election Committee which said there was no election and he did not order any election when he addressed a briefing at the Police Headquarters in Jalingo.
“No APC governorship primary election was held in Taraba. Therefore, the nomination of the second defendant (Bwacha) as the governorship candidate did not comply with the electoral act of 2022,” the judge held.
