APC schedules crucial NEC meeting for July 24 to decide leadership future

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed July 24, 2025, for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, a crucial gathering expected to chart the party’s next direction following the resignation of its National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The decision was announced on Monday after the first NWC meeting chaired by the newly appointed Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Bukar Dalori, held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

According to the APC’s National Deputy Secretary, Barr. Festus Faunter, the party has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the scheduled NEC meeting.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Faunter explained the significance of the NEC meeting in determining the party’s leadership structure and other vital decisions.

“The National Executive Committee is the apex body of the party. And so, whatever it is that we do now, including the endorsement of the National Chairman, must also receive the blessings of the NEC. And during the meeting, if they so desire that a new chairman is nominated, we’ll also accept such nomination and then wait for the convention where the final position of the party will be made as far as the substantive chairman is concerned,” he said.
“The suggested date for the NEC meeting is the 24th of July, 2025. It’s going to be here on the premises of the APC,” Faunter added.
The upcoming NEC meeting is expected to provide clarity on the party’s leadership transition and other strategic matters as it navigates a post-Ganduje era.
