Bagos wins APC Jos South/Jos East Reps rerun primary in Plateau

Hon. Dachung Bagos has won the All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Representatives rerun primary for Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency of Plateau State, polling 12,181 votes to defeat his challenger, Hon. Esther Bitrus, who scored 2,495 votes.
The result was announced on Thursday by the Chairman of the Planning Committee for the rerun election, Mr. Simon Karu, at the APC secretariat, Kalwa House, Jos, following a court-ordered rerun across 11 wards.

The rerun followed a judgment of the High Court in Jos, which found irregularities in the previous primary in Du, Shen, Zawan ‘B’, Turu, Fobur ‘A’, Fobur ‘B’, Jarawan Kogi, Mai Juju/Doss, Federe, Shere East and Shere West wards.
With the outcome, Bagos, a former member of the House of Representatives, is set to represent the APC in the 2027 general election, subject to the party’s nomination and the electoral process.

Reacting to his victory while addressing supporters who thronged his residence in Jos, Bagos expressed appreciation to the people of Jos South and Jos East for standing by him throughout the process.
“I want to sincerely thank the people of Jos South and Jos East for standing by me throughout this process. Your support, prayers and confidence in me have given me the strength to continue,” he said.
He called on his supporters and constituents to remain united and support the party in the 2027 general election.
“I am appealing to everyone to support us in the general election. This victory is not for me alone; it is a victory for all of us and a responsibility to work together for the development of our constituency,” Bagos said.
Bagos cautioned his supporters against insults, abuse and inflammatory comments, urging them to respect those who contested against him.
“I want to appeal to our people not to insult anybody. Do not abuse your opponents or those who contested against us. Politics should not divide us because after the election, we will still remain brothers and sisters,” he said.
Bagos urged his supporters to celebrate the victory with humility and extend a hand of friendship to other aspirants.
“We must celebrate with humility. Let us not insult or provoke anybody. We have won the primary, but there is still a bigger task ahead of us,” he said.
He also commended Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for what he described as the administration’s development strides across the state.
“I want to appreciate our Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for the development strides he has recorded in Plateau State. We recognise the efforts being made by his administration to move the state forward,” Bagos said.
“We must remain united, peaceful and focused. What is important now is how we can collectively work for the progress of our people and the development of Plateau State,” he added.
