The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has clarified that the proposed delineation of wards in Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South West Federal Constituency has not been suspended, contrary to reports in some national newspapers.

In a press statement available to CAPITAL POST, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee,Sam Olumekun, stated that no final decision has been taken on the matter.

He also assured that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is continuing in all local government areas under the constituency, using the existing wards and polling units.

The clarification comes after a Supreme Court judgment delivered on December 2, 2022, which ordered a fresh delineation of wards in the constituency. Ward delineation involves redrawing electoral boundaries to ensure fair representation for voters in each area, affecting how polling units and local wards are organized for elections.

INEC appealed to all parties involved to maintain peace in the area, stressing its commitment to upholding the law and ensuring credible elections. Observers say the clarification aims to prevent confusion and reassure residents that voter registration and electoral preparations are proceeding smoothly.
