Reps Deputy Speaker, Kalu denies declaring for Abia governorship contest in 2027 election

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu has denied reports linking him to have declared his intention to contest governorship of Abia State in 2027 general election.
He gave the denial in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu which was made available to journalists on Sunday, clarifying that he was committed to his legislative assignment for now.

Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, urged the public and his constituents to disregard the claim, saying it did not emanate from him.
“The attention of the Office of the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has been drawn to a false and misleading news report circulating on social media, attributed to “Native Reporters”, claiming the Deputy Speaker’s intention to run for Governor of Abia State in 2027.”

He described the report as baseless and unfounded, even as the Deputy Speaker has not declared privately or publicly anywhere.
“The Deputy Speaker is focused on his four-year mandate of representing Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State and serving them and indeed, all Nigerians with dedication and integrity.
“We urge “Native Reporters” to retract the false report and adhere to basic journalistic ethics, including truth, accuracy, and fairness if they are a responsible and credible news platform.
“We also caution against spreading misinformation and advise media practitioners to verify facts before publication.
“The political family of the Deputy Speaker will announce his plans and intentions at the appropriate time.”
