Tinubu’s 2-year tenure under scrutiny as northerners gather in Kaduna [Photo]

Northerners from the 19 States in the north and the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday gathered at the Arewa House, Kaduna to scrutinise the two-year administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to determine if his administration faired well for the north or not.

Themed, “Assessing electoral promises: fostering government -citizens’ engagement for national unity,” the two-day session is drawing participants from across the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The two-day session which started today till Wednesday 30 July, include business men, notable politicians, policy influencers, opinion moulders, ex-Ministers, traditional rulers, technocrats, civil society organisations, religious leaders and women groups, where each representative would be allowed to present their opinion and perception about the administration.

CAPITAL POST reports that some northern political elements have scathingly criticized Tinibu’s administration and accused him of marginalization and nepotism in terms of infrastructural development and appointment of citizens into government citizens, which the administration has consistently denied.

Those who are not in government from the northern extraction have largely expressed their undercurrent of North’s perceived marginalisation in key appointments, project execution, and federal allocations, which may prominently feature in Tuesday and Wednesday’s discussion.

Director General and convener, Abubakar Gambo expressed the belief that the gathering was the region’s tradition of constructive engagement and a way of sounding the north’s loud voice if the administration was doing well or not.

“The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce a significant two-day interactive session scheduled for 24th and 25th June 2025 in Kaduna, Nigeria,” he had said in a statement.

“This landmark event builds on the Foundation’s successful engagement on 17th October 2022, where frontline presidential candidates, including then-candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, presented their manifestos and made commitments towards the development of Northern Nigeria.

“With President Tinubu now two years into his administration, this follow-up session aims to evaluate the progress made on those electoral promises, deepen government-citizen engagement, and promote a clearer understanding of the administration’s policies and programmes,” he added.
