INEC confirms readiness to conduct hitch-free elections in 2027

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash O. Amupitan, said, the commission has finalized its timetable and schedule of activities preparatory for the 2027 general election despite delays in the passage of amended electoral act by lawmakers in the National Assembly.
He said the Commission was committed to a free, fair and credible election and would ensure due processes leading to acceptable election.

Prof. Amupitan stated this at a consultative meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Abuja on Thursday where he highlighted significant electoral activities leading to the 2027 elections.
He said: “Despite the delay in the passage of the amended Electoral Act, INEC is committed to delivering the 2027 elections as scheduled”, revealing that the 2027 timetable and activities have been planned in line with the Constitution.

Prominent among the Civil Society organisations are Yiaga Africa, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), and CREAP among few others.
The Chairman said, the 2027 general election timetable will comply with the Constitution despite the ongoing amendment by legislators in the National Assembly.
