The opposition African Democratic Congress, ADC has called for the sack of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan over what it described as “bias” in party affairs to weaken opposition ahead of 2027 general election.

The call followed the delisting of David Mark-led National Chairman of ADC by the INEC, from its portal, citing Court order.

Reacting to the action of INEC at a World Press Briefing at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua on Thursday in Abuja, the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark insisted that the INEC got involved in unlawful action and demanded for the sack of Prof. Joash Amupitan to save Nigeria’s democracy.

The National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, explained that the delisting of the ADC National Chairman David Mark, National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, and others, said the action was in compliance with the Court order directing the electoral umpire to maintain ‘status quo ante bellum’, pending the determination of the trial Court.

CAPITAL POST recalled that the ADC crisis stemmed from the resignation of the pioneer National Chairman, Prof. Himphrey Nwosu and his National Working Committee to pave way for a coalition after the party was adopted as an alternative to confront APC at the general election.

ADC insisted that David Mark and his team cannot be removed as there is a pending matter directing the INEC to recognize them.
